Simplicity - The best direct cremation?

Simplicity Cremations offer low-cost direct cremation funerals across mainland UK.

In this review, we look closely at the cost and features of their prepaid funeral plans, which start from £1,495 or £17 a month.

It’s important to note that Simplicity funeral plans are cheaper because they provide only the basic services required for a cremation - which doesn’t include a funeral service or any personalised elements.

If you feel that your loved ones would appreciate the opportunity to hold a more traditional style funeral, but at a cost that suits your budget, then you could arrange a Simple funeral plan through Reassured.

A Simple funeral plan purchased through us, for either a cremation or burial, starts from just £3,220 or £20.38* a month.

All our funeral plans are fully guaranteed which means your services are locked-in at today’s price.

What is a Simplicity funeral?

A Simplicity funeral (or Simplicity Cremations) is an unattended or attended direct cremation funeral.

A direct cremation may be suitable for those who would prefer not to have a big, fancy final departure (that could be costly to loved ones).

Instead, a direct cremation is a quiet and simple way to be laid to rest – there’s no funeral procession, no hearse or limousines and no funeral service.

Usually, with this type of a funeral, only the professional funeral staff are present for the committal at the crematorium.

Family members could then arrange a separate memorial service or gathering at a separate time and place convenient for them.

The difference with a Simplicity funeral is that you can choose if family members are able to attend the committal and hold a service at the crematorium.

A Simplicity funeral can be arranged anywhere in mainland UK, excluding Northern Ireland.

Did you know that funeral costs have risen 130% since 2004 (and continue to rise)?[1]

Funeral plans purchased through Reassured and those from Simplicity Cremations allow you to freeze rising funeral costs.

The services agreed in your plan are guaranteed which means that even as prices continue to rise, your funeral will still be carried out as per your wishes with no more for your family to pay**.

Many people take out a funeral plan for this very reason, protecting loved ones from higher prices in the future, (potentially saving them £1,000s).

Simplicity funeral plans

Simplicity Cremations offer three different prepaid funeral plans that are priced according to the number of people you’d like to attend the funeral.

The Lily Plan - Prepaid Direct Cremation Plan The Magnolia Plan - Basic Funeral Plan The Orchid Plan - Simple Funeral Plan
£1,495 or £17 a month £1,795 or £20 a month £2,295 or £25 a month
(Unattended) Direct cremation with no mourners and no service (Intimate) Up to 12 mourners to attend committal at the crematorium (Attended) Full service in the chapel held by family, no limit on attendees

All their plans include the following:

  • Collection, transportation and care of the deceased 24/7
  • Simple wood-effect coffin
  • Return of ashes in a simple container
  • Professional guidance 24/7 over the phone
  • Plan moves with you if you move home, free of charge
  • Free bereavement support for loved ones
  • Includes cremation fees

Simplicity Cremations plans are flexible so that loved ones can add on items if they wish, although any extras would need to be paid for by them when the time comes and therefore, will be charged at the going rate.

Simplicity - Lily funeral plan

The Lily plan is the cheapest Simplicity prepaid funeral plan, offering a fuss-free direct cremation without service.

This means the deceased is transported directly to the mortuary and cared for there by a professional until the day of the cremation, (which is arranged at a time to suit them).

Family members aren’t able to attend the cremation, therefore they would need to arrange a separate wake or gathering at another time and place if they wish to do so.

Simplicity - Magnolia funeral plan

The Magnolia plan includes a direct cremation funeral as described above, but up to 12 mourners can attend for a short, intimate farewell in the crematorium chapel.

Close family and friends can quietly pay their respects and play a piece of music in your memory if they wish.

Simplicity - Orchid funeral plan

The Orchid plan is the most comprehensive plan and includes the opportunity for family to have a full funeral service in the crematorium chapel.

Unless they wish to pay for a minister or celebrant, family members would need to arrange and carry out the ceremony themselves - although they can receive free professional guidance during this time.

Simplicity Cremations cost

The total cost of a Simplicity Cremations funeral plan would depend on the plan of choice and the payment terms.

You can spread the cost by paying in affordable monthly payments over 1 - 10 years, or simply pay in full when you take out the plan.

Examples of how much the Lily plan will cost per month based on the payment terms:

  • 12 monthly payments of £124.58 per month (total payment £1,495)
  • 24 monthly payments of £65.92 per month (total payment £1,582.31)
  • 60 monthly payments of £28.75 per month (total payment £1,725.52)
  • 120 monthly payments of £16.51 per month (total payment £1,981.80)

Spreading the cost over more than 12 months incurs a 6% charge per annum.

Funeral plans arranged through Reassured also offer flexible payment options.

You can spread the cost of your plan over 12 months, over 2 - 25 years, or pay in full.

If you do purchase a funeral plan through us and spread the cost over 2 – 25 years, then you could qualify for a unique benefit that won’t be available with most direct cremation plans.

This is if you pass away after the first 12 months of the plan but before the plan has been paid in full, then your funeral services will still be carried out as per your wishes, with nothing more for your loved ones to pay**.

With a Simplicity Cremations funeral plan, if you pass away at any time before your plan is paid in full, your next of kin would need to pay the remaining balance.

For peace of mind that your loved ones won’t be burdened with your funeral costs in this circumstance, you may consider a funeral plan through Reassured.
