The fees and send-off costs were sourced from the SunLife Cost of Dying Report. The
national average was used across the board as no regional breakdown in these costs were available.
The Average Funeral Cost for each location is thus the average of the burial and cremation costs plus
the fees and send-off cost.
Average weekly expenditure by region and median gross weekly pay by local
authority were sourced from the Office of National Statistics.
Average Disposable Income is calculated as the difference between the median weekly pay and average
weekly expenditure.
The Average Funeral Cost is divided by the Average Disposable Income to find the number of weeks it
would take the average person to save for the funeral. (If all their disposable income was saved over
this time period)
