It’s been a long 9 months, filled with stress and no small amount of anxiety, but the day is finally here. Today you get to welcome your child into the big wide world.

For many parents, the birth of any child is a memorable moment. It’s a call for celebration, and will no doubt be a recurring story you tell your child when they’re older to embarrass them in front of their friends.

But when it comes to reducing the stress and pain of giving birth, there’s only so much that calm words and holding each other’s hands can do. That’s why many people choose to have music playing during labour to both relax them, and so they can associate the extra special memory with one of their favourite songs.

With this in mind, our team set out to find the most popular birthing songs out there. We analysed 1,000 birth-themed Spotify playlists, and using this data, we were able to create a list of the current top 20 songs to give birth to.

So, whether you already have a specific song in mind, or want to make the perfect playlist for that special day, here are the top 20 most popular songs to give birth to that you can use to welcome your new child into the family...

The top 10 most popular songs to give birth to

When it comes to relaxing and heart-warming songs, there’s quite a selection to choose from. But without a doubt, the most popular current song to give birth to is Ben Howard’s 'Only Love'.

Given the acoustic style and theme of the lyrics, it’s not hard to see why this song is a firm favourite of many soon-to-be parents, but there are plenty of close competitors on our list.

Our second and third most popular birthing songs followed close behind, with Jack Johnson’s 'Better Together', and 'Here Comes The Sun' by the Beatles proving to be almost equal in popularity. Again, both of these lovely little tunes make for some calm, easy listening, which is exactly what you want on this big day.

The rest of our list included the likes of Nora Jones’ 'Sunrise', 'Follow The Sun' by Xavier Rudd, and Ed Sheeran’s 'Perfect', adding even more acoustic classics to the mix.

And rounding out our top ten songs to give birth to, you’ll find Fleetwood Mac’s 'Landslide', John Legend’s, 'All of Me', 'Ocean Eyes' by Billie Eilish, and 'Thinking Out Loud' another classic Sheeran hit.

The most popular artists for giving birth to

Naturally, if you’re making a playlist to help you get through the stress of this important day, you’re going to want a nice mix of artists to help vary the mood. That being said, there were definitely a few artists that made our top 20 list multiple times, showing that some musicians simply can’t be missed.

The Beatles were the first artist to appear twice on our list, with 'Here Comes The Sun' and 'Blackbird'. As two of The Beatles' most well-known songs, it’s no surprise they’re the first pick for those who love this classic British band.

Next, we have Ed Sheeran, with the two songs we’ve already mentioned. Interestingly, while Ed Sheeran wasn’t the only artist to appear twice in our overall ranking, he was the only artist who had both their songs in the top ten, hinting at his enduring popularity.

And as for our other multi-song artists, Fleetwood Mac made a second appearance with their classic 'Dreams', alongside a double appearance from Coldplay towards the bottom of our ranking, with 'The Scientist' and 'Yellow'.

Based on these double appearances, it’s would seem to imply that the acoustic and light music genres are by far the most popular when it comes to songs to give birth to, but it’s also nice to see such a blend of old and modern artists making multiple appearances in our ranking.

And there you have it; those are the current top 20 songs to give birth to. Of course, these are just what’s popular right now, and there’s no reason you have to add any of them to your birthing playlist.

If there are certain songs that mean a lot to you, or you prefer a different genre entirely to help you relax, then they could go on your personal playlist for this big day.

But while welcoming your child into the world is always a time of great joy, the addition of a new member to the family makes it even more important to consider your loved ones' future financial security, which in turn provides you with reassuring peace of mind.
