Top UK industries for workplace benefits

For anyone making workplace benefits their priority when looking to start a new role, the good news is that there are numerous businesses out there offering a wide range of benefits for employees to enjoy.

In fact, the volume of businesses offering a high number of work benefits was so common in our research that our number one spot was tied between two companies.

Both Dishoom - a chain of award-winning Indian restaurants – and Heathrow Airport offer their employees an impressive total of 56 workplace benefits. And this was still only one ahead of our second-place business, the software company, Kainos, who offer up to 55 job benefits in total.

All three of these companies were then closely followed by a tie for the third spot between fast-food favourite, McDonalds, and the finance giant, Fidelity International.

Both offer their employees an enviable benefits package that includes 53 options, which is closely matched by our fourth-place company, Computacenter, who offer 52.

In our fifth spot, we had yet another tie. Both Ocado technology and Cisco Systems each provide employees with 51 benefits to choose from.

For the sixth spot on our list, there was a three-way tie between coffee giants Starbucks, Adobe, and SAP, all of whom provide their employees with a selection of 50 benefits.

Finally, let’s look at which benefits were the most common for employers to offer their employees.

Naturally, and no doubt appreciated by many, the most common benefit to appear across our list was maternity and paternity leave, offered by 53 of the companies we studied.

This was then closely followed by vacation and paid time off, which was provided by 49 businesses on our list.

Health insurance, sick days, bereavement leave, and job training were all also offered by a wide selection of companies, reaching a total of 48.

As a result of changing work practices in recent years, at least 45 businesses actively offered working from home as a benefit.

Interestingly, while 39 workplaces stated they provide a selection of mental health care services, something that is not always that common, only 22 of the businesses we looked at had a pension plan, and just 13 had an equal pay policy.

With this information to hand, you should now have a better idea of what companies and industries to look out for should you decide to make benefits a priority when searching for a new career.

However, it’s important to note that not all companies have the means to provide the same benefits as others, especially if they’re smaller, independent, local businesses.
